The Ultimate Bike Bag
Human Factors - SCAD IDUS 221- Prof. Woods - fall 2019
The Project
The goal of this product is to enhance the bike commuting experience and ease the difficulties and stress of carrying supplies on and off a bike.
The product will be semi-adjustable to fit the shoulders and upper body of various shapes of women. The product will also be simple to use when interacting with a bike.
The Client
Missy is a senior in Illustration at SCAD. She has worked hard to develop a personal style in her work. She works with bold colors and large shapes to create fun cute characters.
Missy is new to biking as a mode of getting to and from classes and needs the perfect method for carrying her supplies.
Research
The research that accompanied this project was an extensive look into my client. I looked at her physical characteristics to make the ergonomics of the product fit her perfectly. I looked at her style, taste, and preferences to create the perfect bag encompassing: size, use, and style.
Ideation
The ideation started with 100 sketches exploring size, shape, color, and bike connection methods.
Five designs were developed from the best of the 100 ideas. Further development was put into the patterning and details to prepare for prototyping.
Prototyping
The prototypes are the next step in the development of the final shape and size of the product. Full-size models allow for further user testing of the designs. I tested for functionality, strap comfort, and various bike connection methods.
