Fammi Pack

This is the result of my ten-week class project, I have been developing a product to add to Burton's line of camping products.

This is an educational project and is not sanctioned by the Burton company. I have just used their design language to practice designing products in a defined style.

Prototypes

These are the prototypes I made as new concept products for Burton's camping line.

The assignment I worked on was to define a product line's design language of a company I admire and expand upon their line with new concepts. All three products I have developed are transformative. I have curated some sketches, pictures, and videos of the prototypes.

Duffle Bag Table

Prototypes
Hang Sequence

Hang Sequence

This concept is a duffle that folds out to be a camp table. I am still exploring the dimensions and mechanisms of but I think the idea is interesting.

BackPack Chair

This is a backpack that doubles as a chair, the pack and the chair can be used together or separately. The main design feature will be integrating the chair frame into the backpack so it is functional and comfortable.

Fanny Pack Hammock

Semi-Final Model

This concept is really fun. It’s a hammock that folds up into a pocket within a fanny pack. the ideal straps will have a tree-friendly method of hanging the hammock.

Semi-Final Model

This is the semi-final model of the fanny pack. It's a full-scale working model, the hammock is very comfortable. My design combines the ease of a fanny pack and the relaxing nature of a hammock into the ultimate day adventure pack. Putting together these two products brings out the fun nature of each. The design uses the straps of the fanny pack as one of the tree straps. The second strap and two 8ft segments of line fold up with the hammock and fit into the back pouch. I am continuing to develop the connection method between the tree straps and the hammock.

Pattern Exploration

Product Sketching

Next Step

At this stage, I had 2 weeks left to develop the final model from pattern to hardware. I think the hardest part of this project has been developing the function of the piece. My target audience is a novice outdoorsman who may not know all the best knots for hanging the hammock. I am working on a simple way of connecting the hammock to the tree. I have had a blast with this project and am really excited for the final model!
